Day 1

Itinerary;

8.45am

Pick up in Dublin city center 

 

10.15 – 11.30

Loughcrew Megalithic Cairn & visitor centre

A short hike to the highest point in County Meath where you will get to find Loughcrew Megalithic Cairn, an ancient rite of passage tomb older than the pyramids of Egypt. You will hear local folklore stories, see carvings on stones dating back 5000BC and visit the Loughcrew Megalithic centre, an old Irish thatched cottage for a cup of coffee/tea.

 

 

12.00– 13.15

Cavan County Museum

See the history of Cavan and surrounding areas in this fantastic museum with evidence of over 6000 years of occupation. Also get to see Ireland and UK's largest outdoor World War I replica trench and step inside the chaos and turmoil of Easter 1916, with the exciting new 1916 Rising Experience and Exhibition.

 

 

13.45 – 14.30 Lunch @ Award Winning Murph's Bistro

 

14.45– 17.30

Kayak / Boat to Clough Oughter Castle

County Cavan, famous for its 365 lakes so why not take a guided kayak trip to Clough Oughter Castle from Cavan Canoe Centre and visit this enchanting castle built on a crannog (old man-made island). Hear about the many tales of Irish chieftains and battles that are linked to this monument. The castle ruin is part of the Marble Arch Geopark on Lough Oughter lake adjacent to the charming Killykeen forest park and is only accessible by water.

 

At the end of the day, You will be brought to your B&B accommodation & a Music session is organised for that night

 

 

Day 2

Itinerary;

 

10.00 – 13.30

Hike the "Stairway to Heaven" to the Summit of Cuilcagh Mt

Enjoy a guided hike to the summit of Cuilcagh Mountain on Ireland's very own Stairway to Heaven. Starting on a gravel road and then continuing onto a wooden boardwalk you get to see the flora, fauna and rare blanket bog of the area. You then meet the stairway that brings you up the steep cliff to the summit of Cuilcagh Mountain, to take in the magnificent views as a well-deserved treat. Appropriate footwear and rain gear along with a relative level of fitness is required to complete this 7km hike to the summit.  The Path is part of the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark.

 

 

13.30 – 14.30 Lunch 

 

14.30– 16.00

Visit Marble Arch Caves Visitor Centre/Claddagh Glen

Visit the Marble Arch Caves visitor centre to get an understanding of this fabulous cave system. You can choose to do a tour of the cave system, guided by a Marble Arch Cave guide for £9.50, or take a short walk down into the Claddagh Glen Nature Reserve. Here you would see and walk along the stunning Claddagh River that rises from the Marble Arch Caves and flows down the limestone gorge.

 

 

16.00– 18.00

Return to Dublin city center
